We are seeking an accomplished Director of Engineering to join the executive team of a newly opening lifestyle hotel in the heart of Madrid, part of a fast-growing international hospitality group.
Mission:
The Director of Engineering leads and oversees all engineering and maintenance operations of the hotel to ensure that buildings, equipment, and technical systems are safe, reliable, and efficiently maintained, guaranteeing guest comfort and supporting overall hotel performance. The role focuses on preserving the property’s physical assets, ensuring regulatory compliance, driving energy efficiency, and providing strong leadership to the engineering team.
Functions:
●Oversee the operation, maintenance and repair of all hotel facilities and systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and structural elements, ensuring they remain in optimal condition.
●Establish, implement and monitor preventive maintenance plans for all critical equipment and building systems, including elevators, generators, kitchen equipment and life-safety systems.
●Lead, train and supervise the engineering and maintenance team, delegating tasks, monitoring performance and ensuring compliance with safety procedures and technical standards.
●Ensure full compliance with applicable health, safety and building regulations, including fire prevention systems, emergency lighting and the correct use of personal protective equipment.
●Plan and manage energy-saving and sustainability initiatives, monitor utility consumption and optimize the performance of energy management systems to reduce costs.
●Coordinate and supervise capital projects, renovations, upgrades and new installations, working with contractors, suppliers and external specialists to ensure quality, timing and budget targets are met.
●Prepare and control the departmental budget, including forecasting, cost control of maintenance activities and capital expenditures, and negotiation of contracts with vendors and service providers.
●Ensure that all guest-facing engineering services (lighting, air conditioning, hot water, etc.) are operating correctly, responding quickly to incidents and supporting other departments in daily operations.
●Manage procurement and inventory of maintenance materials, spare parts and tools, keeping accurate records of warranties, service contracts and maintenance histories.
●Maintain accurate documentation and reports on maintenance programs, inspections, certifications and compliance with health and safety standards, informing hotel management regularly.
Requisitos
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil) or in Facilities Management or a closely related field.
7–10 years of professional experience in engineering or maintenance, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role, ideally within the hospitality industry or a similar service-driven environment.
Strong technical knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing and fire safety systems.
Proven leadership, team management and staff development skills.
Proficiency in maintenance management systems (such as CMMS) and Microsoft Office tools.
Strong problem-solving skills, analytical thinking and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Solid budget management skills and financial awareness related to maintenance and capital projects.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong focus on safety, compliance and service quality.
